I started having contractions after our trip to the beach a couple of weeks ago and they did not stop. Sunday night after dinner we went on a long walk as a family, contractions still the same. The boys went to bed and Ryan shortly after them. I stayed up and watched TV. Around 10pm my contractions were a little more intense and coming every 5 minutes. After an hour I woke Ryan, he suggested to call Labor and Delivery. The midwife on call suggested that I should come end since Gavin came fast and they didn't check me at my appointment on Tuesday. I called our friend, Nancy to come stay with the boys until my mom could get here, if this was the real thing. Luckily the boys stayed asleep unlike last time. We get to the hospital and I can still talk through the contractions, the midwife checks me and I am 5cm dilated and 60%. So it looked like I was staying, they transfer me to a L&D room and got a picc line started just in case. But I knew that I was going to do this without an epidural.
I walked around the room eating ice chips and drinking juice, while Ryan was watching ESPN. Every 30 minutes my nurse Heather would come in and monitor Camden's heart rate while I was contracting and a few minutes after one. My contractions started to get more intense and started coming 3 to 4 minutes apart but was still able to talk through them. After 2 hours went by my midwife Anne came and check me I was 7cm dilated and 70%. My midwife is the same one that delivered Brent almost 5 years ago. They left me alone again. During the next 2 hours I sat quit a bit because I was tired and my back was hurting so I didn't walk around much. This caused my labor to slow down because when they checked me again I was still the same. So the midwife gave me 3 options: pitocin(no), break water, or stretch my cervix. I asked the midwife how fast she thought I would go after breaking my water because I knew my contractions would get unbearable wants she broke it. Up until now labor was not that painful. She I thought I would go fast and she was right.
After she broke my water I needed Ryan by my side to help me through it. Sorry no more TV. Also I could not get out of bed at this point. I had 3 to 4 contractions while lying on my back. I started to feel more pressure so the midwife returned to the room and told me that the baby would come quicker if I was on my side. She said, Why don't you do 3 contractions on each side and then I will check you again. I did 3 on one side and was ready to push. Camden arrived minutes later. It was such a great feeling having her lay on my chest. I ended up getting pitocin after delivery because I was bleeding too much because I had low blood platelets and my uterus wasn't contracting the way it should have. With all the commotion after birth they forgot to weigh and measure her until I reminded them 2 hours later when they were giving her a bath. We are glad Camden arrived without any complications and are so blessed to have a healthy baby girl!
